National Anthem of Nicaragua – Republic of Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the most populous countries located in Central America. The country is divided into three geographical zones – Pacific lowlands; wet, cooler central highlands; and the Caribbean lowlands.
Nicaragua was under the rule of Spain until 15th September, 1821. On this day, the country became independent. However, the National Anthem of Nicaragua was approved by the government of Nicaragua on 20th October, 1939. Later on 25th August, 1971, the National Anthem of Nicaragua was adopted.
“Salve a ti, Nicaragua” is the National Anthem of Nicaragua. The words for the National Anthem of Nicaragua were given by Salomón Ibarra Mayorga. The musical notes to the National Anthem of Nicaragua were framed by Luis A. Delgadillo.
The music of the National Anthem of Nicaragua dates back to the 18th century when it was used as a liturgical hymn by a Spanish monk, Father Castinove, when the country was a province of Spain. During the first years of independence, the National Anthem of Nicaragua was used to salute the judges of the Supreme Court of the State of Nicaragua, then a member of the Federation of Central America.
This the National Anthem of Nicaragua was eventually replaced by three other hymns during times of political upheaval or revolution, but it was restored April 23, 1918, to the fall of the last liberal revolution. A competition was open to the public, new lyrics for the National Anthem of Nicaragua. The words could not mention peace and work, as the country had just abandoned a civil war. As a result, the National Anthem of Nicaragua is one of the few hymns in Latin America that speaks of peace rather than war.
The new conservative, pro-Spanish government quickly awarded the first prize to Salomon Ibarra Mayorga. The anthem replaced the more belligerent Soberana Hermosa (Beautiful and sovereign), an anti-Spanish Military March was considered a shame in a country with deep Spanish roots.

National Anthem of Nicaragua in Spanish:
¡Salve a ti, Nicaragua! En tu suelo,
ya no ruge la voz del cañón,
ni se tiñe con sangre de hermanos
tu glorioso pendón bicolor.

Brille hermosa la paz en tu cielo,
nada empañe tu gloria inmortal,
¡que el trabajo es tu digno laurel
y el honor es tu enseña triunfal!
English translation of the present National Anthem of Nicaragua:
Hello to you, Nicaragua! In your country
the voice of the roaring of cannon,
and stained with the blood of brothers
your glorious bicolour.

Brille peace in your beautiful sky
way diminish the intensity of immortal glory
This work is your laurels

and honour your great sign!
