Papua New Guinea is officially the Independent State of
Papua New Guinea, which covers the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and
islands in Melanesia, a region of southwest of the Pacific Ocean north of
Australia. Its capital, located along the southeast coast, east of Port
Moresby. The western half of New Guinea is the Indonesian provinces of Papua
and West Papua.
Papua New Guinea is one of the most multicultural countries
in the world. 848 unlike languages are spoken in the country, 12 of which
have no speakers known life. Most of the population of more than 7 million
people live in customary communities, which are as varied as the languages. It
is also one of the most rural, only 18 percent of the population lives in urban
centres. Papua New Guinea is one of the least explored countries, and many
undiscovered species in the world of plants and animals are thought to exist
within.
"O Arise, all you sons" is the national anthem of
Papua New Guinea. The song was promoted national anthem when Papua New Guinea
became independent 16 September 1975 The national anthem of Papua New Guinea
was composed by Royal Marine and Thomas Shacklady.
